Breathing & Meditation

I am often astounded at the mental and physical health benefits of mindfulness and deep breathing. In my experience, most folks agree that mindfulness and breathwork are beneficial to their mind and body, yet they resist commiting to a daily ritual.

This list of resources is intended to reduce the barriers and increase your commitment to this free and relatively quick restorative.

Dr. Brad Lichtenstein is a naturopathic physician in the Seattle area, whose website www.TheBreatheSpace.com has a very useful list of guided meditations you can download and listen to anywhere.

There are two meditations that I often encourage my clients to try. The first is Dr. Daniel J Siegel’s Wheel of Awareness practice. This practice is a daily walkthrough of our many senses. Here is a link to my version of the Wheel of Awareness on Sound Cloud.

The second meditation I like is the R.A.I.N. Meditation created by Tara Brach. It is especially useful to manage or investigate intense or overwhelming emotions.

I’ve recorded a meditation made up of brief breath work, 6 senses and a RAIN-style exploration of the 7 core emotions from AEDP. I call it 5-6-7 meditation. Hopefully, the audio box below will play for you. If not, you should be able to access it on Sound Cloud here.

A lot of people find it easier to practice mindfulness with a smart phone app. Here are my favorites:
